10 Essential Things To Do Before 2026 | New Year Checklist

With 2027 closing in, it’s the perfect time to tackle these essential things to do before the new year and finish strong!

As a self-proclaimed planoholic, it’s no surprise that I am obsessed with the New Year season. It’s a time for reflection, goal-setting, and pushing myself to reach new heights.

Since I am already busy thinking about what next year will bring, I thought I’d share the essential things I plan to accomplish before 2027 swings by.

Grab your planner (and coffee) because it’s go time!

Essential Things To Do Before 2027

1. Annual Life Audit

A life audit encompasses many different aspects. However, the main goal remains the same: to reflect and introspect.

Read more about how to do a life audit here.

2. New Year Journey Roadmap

A journey roadmap is a meticulous outline of your year. It includes goals, detailed planning, milestones, deadlines, etc.

A roadmap and a life audit might seem like the same thing; however, they are completely different:

  • A roadmap is forward-looking, goal-oriented, and strategy-driven, whereas a life audit is all about reflection, evaluation, and gap analysis.

3. Vision Board + Goal-Setting

Both of these concepts are included in the above exercises but I still want to mention them separately.

You must enter a new year with a plan. If you don’t, you are setting yourself up for failure. Besides, who doesn’t love making vision boards?

Plan your goals with the SMART method:

  • S – Specific
  • M – Measurable
  • A – Achievable
  • R – Realistic
  • T – Time-bound

Then create a vision board according to your goals. Learn how to make a free digital vision board here!

4. Journal/Planner/Calendar

Buy a planner for the new year.

This one is quite self-explanatory. Besides, who doesn’t want an excuse to fuel their cute planner/journal addiction?

5. New Year Side Quest

I blab a lot about side quests on here *lol*, however, they bring something different to our mundane routines!

Usually, I incorporate mini side quests into my week for instance journaling daily, having my coffee outside, etc. The basic premise is that side quests are mini-challenges that don’t correlate with your main goals. It’s just a bit of fun!

6. Plan Your End-Of-Year Celebration

Another thing you should do before 2027 is to plan a you day.

Celebrate your wins at the end of the year with a glass of champagne and a facemask. Just spoil yourself because you deserve it!

7. Declutter

Walk into the new year with a decluttered space, physically and digitally.

8. Update your resume

It’s always a good idea to keep your resume updated annually otherwise you might forget to add some things.

Take an afternoon and update the things that need updating. You never know when you might want to use it again.

9. Make a reading list

I absolutely need to do this! One of my goals is to read more, so please share your recommendations in the comments!

You can also create a book tracker to help motivate you to read throughout the year.

10. Plan For New Year's Eve

Lastly, plan what you will be doing on the 31st of December.

New Year is a time of celebration and the season of hope. Treat it as such.

Conclusion

That concludes the things you should do before 2027. Enjoy the last bit left of this year and make the new year one to remember!
