11 Cheap Fall Date Night Ideas At Home With Unique Twists

Date nights hit different during fall. I might be slightly biased since it’s my favorite season. But not all of us have the budget or time to go out on fun activities. Thus I present to you cheap fall date night ideas at home with unique twists.

I already have a fall bucket list and a fall bingo card on my blog if you want to check them out! Both come with free printables ♥.

These fall date night ideas are perfect for my southern and northern hemisphere readers i.e. I didn’t include traditional USA-related ideas such as pumpkin carving, etc. I wanted this list to be helpful to everyone.

Without further ado, let’s grab our cozy blankets and steaming cups of coffee and dive into these affordable fall date night ideas you can enjoy at home.

Cheap Fall Date Night Ideas At Home

1. The Cinematic Fall Festival

Binge-watch your favorite fall movies but with a twist…

Create fun award ballots that you and your partner can give the characters after the movie. Here are some examples:

  • Which character is most likely to burst into song spontaneously?
  • What is the best line in the entire movie?
  • Who is the supporting actor that carried the show?
  • Who is most likely to trip over nothing?
  • Who’s most likely to get distracted by their own reflection?
  • What was the best song in the soundtrack?

3.Fall-themed photoshoot at home

Enjoy a quirky photoshoot at home and put a twist on it.

  • Do a ghost-themed photoshoot by wearing white sheets with eye holes cut out. Add exaggerated props to add to the humor of it all.
  • Put a bunch of silly pose ideas in a hat and draw for every photo.
  • Tell a story with the photo shoot, like “The Great Pumpkin Heist”, etc.

Oh boy, my September monthly recap may be the wildest one yet! Literally. No, not in terms of goals and milestones but …

3. The Whodunit Game

Exchange a normal Uno night to play detective and solve a murder mystery.

I keep seeing ‘On The Case – Murder Mystery Game’ pop up on all my social media and I am quite enticed to try it! I’ll link it for you to take a peek, however, the company is based in South Africa.

4. Indoor ‘Bonfire’

Create the vibe of a bonfire by lighting a bunch of candles and draping fairy lights everywhere.

You can add to the fun by playing fall-themed trivia, having a mini scavenger hunt for fall snacks, or decorating the ceiling with a star projector (or glow-in-the-dark stars).

5. Dine In Disguise

Surprise each other with a unique costume for a dinner date at home. You can even add a theme to it:

  • Classic fall movie characters
  • Classy autumn masquerade
  • Cozy book characters
  • Harvest festival

6. DIY Date Night

Create a memorable experience by indulging in some DIY… with a twist of course.

You can take this in a couple of different ways:

  • Timed Craft Swap: Start a craft project together with a timer. When the timer goes off, switch projects and continue the cycle until you are left with interesting designs.
  • Unique DIY Project: Try something completely different from the usual DIY projects, such as making candles or creating potpourri.
  • Mystery Box Exchange: Exchange fun mystery boxes with craft supplies and challenge each other to create projects only using the items from the box.

7. Book Roulette

Are you a couple that adores reading? Then a reading date night with a twist might be right up your alley!

Here’s how it will work:

  1. Choose Books: Select a couple of books your partner knows nothing about.
  2. Exchange Books: Swap these books during your date night.
  3. Draw Chapter Numbers: Prepare a hat filled with random numbers – this will represent the chapters in the book.
  4. Read a Chapter: Both draw a number and read only the corresponding chapter.
  5. Summarize the Plot: After reading, you both summarize the premise of the book without any additional context clues and see how close you can get to the actual story.

8. Indoor Camp Out

Why not camp indoors for a change? Assemble the tent in your living room or build a blanket fort.

Spice it up with interactive storytelling. Here’s how it will work:

The Prompt: Write a bunch of storytelling prompts, toss them in a bag, and take turns drawing one. Some ideas could be:

  • “You hear a strange voice outside the tent. When you investigate, you discover…”
  • “ You both discover a mysterious ‘camping manual’. What’s in it and what do you do with it?”

Timed Storytelling: One of you starts the story but you are on the clock! When your time is up, your partner picks up where you left off with the same amount of time. Keep alternating until the story is complete.

Alternatively: You can add a twist by drawing prompts during the story to keep it going in unexpected directions.

9. Hot Cocoa & S’mores Bar

There’s nothing more synonymous with fall than hot cocoa and s’mores! So, naturally, I had to include it.

However, we have to put a twist on it for your fall date night. Lay out an assortment of flavors and toppings like salted caramel, whipped cream, pumpkin spice, crushed cookies, marshmallows, peanut butter, etc.

OR try the viral air fryer s’more trend. Search for it on TikTok if you have no idea what I’m talking about – you won’t regret it ;-).

10. Sip & Paint

Get yourself a glass of wine and paint the night away!

However, one of you will be blindfolded while the other instructs them on what to paint. This activity not only adds an element of fun but also helps improve your communication skills *lol*

Video call a friend to pick a winner and rate your artwork at the end of the night.

11. The Bake-Off Challenge

If cooking is your thing this date night idea is perfect for you.

Create mystery baskets for each other with unique and fall-themed ingredients. You then cook or bake something with the ingredients in your basket only. It’s a fun challenge to try on a date night at home.
