I am no stranger to anxiety. I had my fair share of panic attacks while I was in school and varsity and now I wish I knew the power of journaling back then. 

These 10 journal prompts are meant to ground you and help navigate through whatever might be stealing your peace.

The Ultimate Journal Prompts For Anxiety

  • List the reasons that might make you anxious
      • Be completely open and honest with yourself.
  • Do you have control over any of the above?
      • Yes – What can I do to manage it?
      • No – How can I let it go?
  • List the items you’d put in your anxiety-care basket.
      • All of these items are meant to soothe and ground you. It could be things like a stress ball, lavender essential oil, inspirational quote cards, or distracting activities.
      • Take it a step further and assemble your anxiety-care basket for the next time you feel stressed.
  • Describe your happy place.
      • Find a quiet place and describe your happy place in detail. Imagine how it would feel, smell, look, etc. 
  • List 3 healthy coping mechanisms.
      • Identify the coping mechanisms that work for you and plan how to implement them into your daily life. 
  • Create a trigger sheet.
      • Create 2 columns on a piece of paper
      • Label the first column ‘Triggers’ and the second column ‘How to avoid/manage it’.
      • Imagine the version of you who conquers anxiety, then write her a letter.
  • Use the 5-4-3-2-1 technique.
      • Write down 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste.
  • Create a what-if list.
      • Create 2 columns on a sheet of paper.
      • List your what-ifs in the first column then put either a positive or neutral response in the second column.
  • What’s the worst possible outcome? Burn it.
      • We are saving the best for last – write out the worst possible outcome of the reason you are anxious. Then… Get rid of it.
      • Scratch it out until you cannot read a word anymore, or rip it out and burn it.
      • The point is, that the worst possible outcome is rarely, if ever, going to happen. So why hold on to it?
