A self-care night routine is ideal for the busy lady who needs some much-needed TLC. There are a bunch of simple and inexpensive ways to incorporate self-care into your night routine.

Downtime is essential to a healthy life, both physically and mentally. The benefits are undeniable, for instance:

  • Self-care improves your mental wellbeing by reducing stress

10+ Self-Care Night Routine Ideas

1. Watch the sunset

Mental health challenges are higher in the city than in the country, as shown by a 2020 research review.

You can combat this by spending some time in nature, and what better way than watching the sunset? I adore a good sunset with a glass of wine or a cup of brew.

Unfortunately, the buildings in my town obscure the sunset, but the colors of the sky are still remarkable. However, when I am in the bush (which I am frequently) I enjoy the sunset as well as the starry night.

2. Create atmospheric lighting

I don’t know about you but my Tik Tok is flooded by this trend! It entails turning off the harsh lights, such as the downlights, in a room and only keeping the atmospheric lights on, such as your lamps, fairy lights, and candles.

Ambient lighting creates a vibe and it is easier on the eyes. 100% recommend.

3. THE bath

We all know and love the bath. It is easily incorporated into your self-care night routine. The bath can go one of two ways:

  • The head-to-toe bath: It is pretty self-explanatory. You can wash your hair, put a hair mask on, use a scrub, shave your legs, etc.
  • The luxury movie bath: Do you know the scene in movies where the main character lays in a bubble bath with champagne in her hand? Yes, that’s the one. Indulge in bubble bath, bath milk, or bath salts.

You don’t have to miss out on this if you only have a shower. Use these shower streamers as aromatherapy!

4. Do the ultimate skincare routine

It is such a main character vibe when you lay on the couch with a face mask. Spoil yourself with an “extra” skincare routine.

Besides your usual skincare, include:

5. Cozy up

A self-care night routine sounds so much better in the winter. Imagine fluffy pajamas and a soft blanket with a hot chocolate in hand! It doesn’t get better than that.

6. Set the mood

Yes, this could include the atmospheric lighting and the cozy pajamas; however, there is more you can do to set the mood.

  • Light a candle – As a South African candles are a necessity thanks to load-shedding, but that doesn’t take away from the vibe it can create.
  • Turn on the diffuser – Choose an essential oil and set the mood with a diffuser. I highly recommend a lavender essential oil. It is one of the best oils to reduce anxiety.
  • Mellow music – I’ve always said, life would be better with some background music! Put on classical or mellow indie music to create an ambient atmosphere.

7. Get something to drink

A self-care night routine is not complete without a drink. As a logical human being, I recommend drinks such as hot chocolate or Chamomile tea. This tea has been shown to improve sleep, and decrease depression, and it has multiple health benefits.

Now, as an authentic human being, I shall drink my coffee no matter what my logical brain says.

8. Have a technology detox

A social media-free day is undeniably beneficial to your mental health.

Social media is a double-edged sword. It made the world more accessible to everyone, but it also came with highlight reels and toxic standards.

If you want to take it a step further, have a technology detox. Don’t turn on Netflix or your computer. Enjoy being in the moment. No screen time before bed will improve your sleep.

9. Write in your journal

Keeping a journal is a great way to organize your thoughts. There is no wrong way to journal. You can have a simple brain dump about your day or write a few things you are grateful for.

10. Do Bible study

People have a misconception about bible study. They immediately think it is boring. However, it is the opposite.

You can do a guided bible study on YouTube. The Bible app has a variety of plans and guided scriptures you can follow. I love this website as well! It explains the Bible in detail and gives a lot of context.

11. Indulge in a relaxing hobby

Pick a new hobby to practice during your self-care night routine. Hobbies are a great way to stimulate your brain while not causing any strain.

Here are 40+ hobby ideas you can pick from! I enjoy crossword puzzles at night and I want to learn crocheting shortly. Which hobbies do you want to try?

12. Have an early night

Go to bed at a decent hour and have a good night’s sleep. You can opt for reading in bed additionally.

You will feel fresh in the morning and ready for anything coming your way!

Conclusion

To summarize, a self-care night routine does not have to be difficult or expensive. Set the mood, create an atmosphere, cozy up, and treat yourself to a serene night!
