13 Ultimate Self-Care Sunday Ideas for a More Refreshed Week

We are all in need of an ultimate self-care Sunday. The weekdays can get hectic with work, house duties, etc.

Unfortunately, a lot of us suffer from Sunday blues.

When I still had a full-time job, Sundays could get tricky. The thought of getting up early and going into another stressful week made Sundays less enjoyable.

That is why I created this Ultimate Self-Care Sunday list for a more refreshed week.

Why are self-care Sundays important?

First of all, we need to know what self-care truly means.

Self-care is quite self-explanatory. It is the act of doing things that feed your mind, body, and soul.

After a stressful week, it is necessary to unwind and you will most definitely reap the benefits.

In a national American survey it was proven that self care had this impact:

  • Enhanced self-confidence in 64%
  • Increased productivity in 67%
  • Increased happiness in 71%

Check out these self care ideas below and start to create your own self-care routine. It is important to be flexible with your routine otherwise it will become a chore.

13 Self-Care Sunday Ideas for an Amazing Week

1. Get some beauty sleep

Don’t be afraid to get an extra hour or two. It is not lazy to sleep in on weekends and should not be a scandal. Except if you are my grandmother who would never be caught in bed later than 7 am, bless her heart.

This does not come hard to me at all since I am a night owl through and through!

Weekends are not supposed to be another normal work day. I encourage you to wake up slowly and then you will set the tone for the rest of your day.

It is important to make that mental shift on weekends. You do not want to be caught up on your work project that is due next week.

I will encourage you to wake up slowly and even spend a few minutes in bed looking outside through the window.

It is the perfect way to start your self-care Sunday.

2. Enjoy your self-care Sunday favorite drink

I must say this is my highlight every morning!

I cannot wait to put on the kettle and make myself a cup of brew. The smell of coffee in the morning just tickles my brain.

Rest assured, I know caffeine first thing in the morning is unhealthy.

But I am going to do it anyway. The beauty of freedom of choice coming to fruition.

If you are looking for a healthier option, I got you covered:

  • Smoothies – This is a great source of energy and vitamins, not to mention delicious! Smoothies can also keep you full which in return makes it a great option for weight loss. And there are many more benefits.
  • Matcha tea – This is a form of green tea and is very healthy. It is high in antioxidants and boosts brain power etc.
  • Water – I know this sounds extremely boring but you can always spice it up by adding a lemon or drinking unsweetened sparkling water.

3. Get some Jesus time

Sunday mornings are crucial for quiet time with God.

If you start your week spiritually sated, I can guarantee your week will be smoother.

Take some time in the morning to attend church or watch an online sermon. You can also do Bible study and spend time in prayer.

Bring all your worries and stresses for the week to the Lord and hand them over to Him.

Matthew  21:22

“You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.”

1 Peter 5:7

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

Matthew 7:7

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.”

I highly recommend this creative Bible. It makes note taking easier and I find myself spending more time in the Word.

Romans 10:17

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.”

The Bible with some Tulips.

4. The luxe pamper bath

You know what I talk about…

Every girl has the 10-minute quick shower routine and the one-hour pamper routine. I am talking about the latter.

Today is the day for the scrub, the shave and the hair treatment.

A good deep pamper bath routine may or may not include the following:

Yes, it can go to this extreme if any men are reading this.

5. The deep skin routine

It does not stop when you get out of the bath, you merely just move to phase two.

So the face cleanser, scrub or mask is done. What next?

  • The full body lotion. I love to add a touch of bio-oil to my lotion. You will see an enormous difference. Once you start using it, you will be hooked.
  • The facial toner
  • The facial serums (of which I have three or four)
  • The jade roller. I will be honest, I have no idea if this thing has any benefit whatsoever. It just feels good.
  • The face cream
  • And I love to top it off with some bio-oil

You will feel like a new person after this.

6. Cozy clothes for your self-care Sunday

I am very fifty-fifty on this. Some Sundays I opt for comfortable baggy clothes and others I love dress-up.

This is honestly a personal choice but when I plan to have a full-out self-care Sunday I make sure to put on some cozy clothes.

It really just creates a vibe.

There is not a lot I can say about this but sweatpants are much more comfortable than a dress.

7. No makeup Sunday

This one goes hand in hand with the cozy clothes.

Some days I love a full glam makeup look and other days I keep it bare. (Hi, it’s 2024 Steph, I barely ever wear make-up these days).

If you are someone that has to wear makeup every day to work I will advise you to have one day in your week be the no makeup day.

And there are some benefits as well:

Not to mention you get 20-30 minutes of your day extra that you would not have.

8. Social media detox

I cannot stress the importance of this enough. I really believe that social media is the reason for a lot of our problems in society today.

Social media is toxic and often leads to the annoying doom scroll.

Just try and build a habit where you do not open Instagram or TikTok every time you get bored.

The goal should be the go one entire day or more without social media.

Besides the benefits heavily outweigh the cons:

  • More time for meaningful in-person interactions
  • Less anxiety and FOMO
  • Fewer opportunities to compare yourself which means,
  • Higher confidence over time
  • More time to be productive
  • More time to learn hobbies – Here are 40+ hobbies to try today!

9. Enjoy a hearty meal

It has been made so easy for our generation to opt for fast food. It is one call away or it can even be delivered to our doors.

But nothing beats a homemade hearty dish. Some cooked chicken with rice and vegetable sides. Mouthwatering.

It is so much more beneficial to opt for healthier homemade food.

And it does not have to be so difficult. There are options such as Hello Fresh etc. All your ingredients come prepacked to your home and it is customed to your needs.

Make a point to cook on Sundays.

10. Go outside

Take a 10-minute walk outside. Just go feel some grass under your feet.

I am my best self once I am surrounded by nature and fresh air.

If you do not feel like walking, grab a glass of juice and go sit outside. Listen to the birds singing, look at the clouds, and feel the sun on your skin. It does not get better than that.

My number one cure when I felt down was to always plan a day trip to my nearest nature reserve. I call it my therapy. There is nothing more soothing than drinking a coffee in the cold early mornings at a dam and looking at the antelopes enjoying daybreak.

Trust me, going outside is the best medicine for mental health. It is where I feel happiest. You cannot miss out on incorporating this into your self-care Sunday routine!

11. Journal on self-care Sunday

Journaling can be a good tool for our minds. Sometimes it makes it easier to lay everything out on paper.

If you struggle with journaling, you can always use prompts and it is so easy to find on Pinterest

Otherwise, you can just brain-dump, that is what I do.

Another way is to just write 3-5 things down that you are grateful for. Sometimes you can get so overwhelmed with life that you forget there are still things you can be grateful for.

I also use the book “A 5 Year Question a Day Memory Journal”. Every day there is a new question and you repeat that question every year on the same day. I am really curious to see my life unfold in front of me and my character development.

12. Watch your favourite show

What is a self-care Sunday without a lazy series binge?

Take your day, kick back, and relax while binging a new or your favorite show.

Once again there is nothing wrong with it. I used to feel ashamed for binging series, Heaven knows why? In the end, why should anyone care what you do with your day?

Check out the top Netflix series and pick one. For me, it is currently Queen Charlotte a Bridgerton Story. Or if I want to go for a comfort show, Vampire Diaries.

13. Pick up a relaxing hobby

One can never have enough hobbies. So why not try a new relaxing hobby?

For instance the following:

We all have that one thing we keep delaying even if we want to do it. For me, it is a vegetable garden and I still have not done it… Oops

Honorable mentions for your self-care Sunday

There are a few more that I thought of and wanted to share with you.

  • Cuddle with your dog (guaranteed dopamine kick)
  • Listen to relaxing music
  • Read a good book
  • Light a candle
  • Put some fresh flowers in your house

Conclusion

These are my self-care Sunday ideas for a more refreshing week.

I hope you can take a few of these ideas and make them your own. We all deserve to feel refreshed and replenished for a new week.
