Feeling Unmotivated? 6 Powerful Ways to Get Unstuck And Slay Today

Feeling unmotivated is one of the worst experiences for me. I am an ambitious person and I set incredibly high standards for myself. Therefore, feeling unmotivated eats at my core, resulting in guilt, anxiety, and feeling like a failure.

A lack of motivation can come in many forms. It can be work-related or even as simple as house chores. Both are valid.

This is why I want to give you my 6 powerful ways to get UNSTUCK and SLAY today when FEELING UNMOTIVATED

First Things First

I have a golden rule: Always understand your actions. It is important to self-reflect and comprehend why you are feeling what you are feeling.

Why are you feeling unmotivated?

  • Maybe you are burnt out, and your body is trying to recover
  • Perhaps you are overwhelmed, so you are ignoring the tasks that need to be done
  • Perhaps your mental health has taken a turn
  • Are you doubting yourself and your capabilities?

Get to the root cause of your emotions.

1. Start Small. Just Start.

This is the number one thing I recommend for procrastination, lack of motivation, and more.

Because it is EFFECTIVE.

Your problem is not doing the work. No. It is starting. Once you start typing or picking up that pen, you will get into it.

Choose a task you have been putting off, it can be as simple as putting the laundry away, and go do it.

Just get moving.

2. Work On Your Self-Discipline

Motivation is unreliable

Do not wait for motivation to start pursuing your goals. You will regret it.

Self-discipline is the number one contributor to success. Why do you think a lot of coaches hammer on being consistent and showing up?

Motivation is temporary. Self-discipline is a skill. Learn it.

3. Remember to Take Breathers

Chop your goals/tasks into smaller bits. That way it will seem less overwhelming and doable.

For example, this is how I break down my weekly blog posts:

  • First I need to brainstorm ideas
  • Then I need to do keyword research
  • Thirdly, I need to work on an SEO-friendly and eye-catching title
  • Then I need to outline my draft
  • And so on.

When you are feeling unmotivated, even smaller tasks may be daunting. That is why I recommend you create “breathers”

This means that after a few tasks, you take 10 minutes to relax and breathe to avoid being overwhelmed.

In these 10 minutes, you can enjoy a coffee or play with the dog. It is just for a mental refresh.

4. Practise Positive Reinforcement

Humans are creatures of habit and habits can be learned

You need to get into the habit of doing aka self-discipline (it’s a full circle moment). One way to teach yourself the habit of doing is by practising positive reinforcement.

Positive reinforcement can be classified under the same umbrella as “breathers”. Another option is rewards.

Reward yourself for completing tasks. Maybe have a cheeky slice of cake after cleaning the house? Or go for a walk after writing a blog.

I used this method a lot when I was studying. I would reward myself with an episode of my favorite series after completing a chapter.

5. Don’t Underestimate the Power of Motivational Content

Oh my, motivational quotes and videos tickle my brain in all the right ways.

You cannot tell me you do not feel like you can conquer the world after searching “success quotes” on Pinterest. It is a real pick-me-up.

Go check out Ben Lionel Scott on YouTube. He has the best short and powerful motivational compilations I have ever seen in my life.

This can push you to start. And once you start, you build habits that will lead to learning self-discipline (I love how this is a full-circle article *lol*).

6. Check On Your Vision Board

You have a vision board, right?

If not, get up and make one (with the help of this guide). If you look at your dream life every single day, you will want it more.

A vision board is a visual representation of your goals for the year or your life.

I have spoken about vision boards a lot, and I will continue doing so because I have experienced the power it has over your motivational levels.

I have mine as my screensaver and it serves as a constant reminder of my “why”.
