Why do I need a vision board?

So why are they such a big deal? Well, I have plenty of reasons to win you over to the vision board side of life!

Manifestation, NOT being one of them. I am very open to not believing in the universe hears you crap.

Your dream life is only achievable through hard work and faith in God. He gave you a purpose and the talents to achieve said purpose.

“Okay, so manifestation isn’t a reason, then what is?”

  • Motivation. My vision board is a great tool to keep me motivated throughout the year.
  • Focus. It keeps me focused on the end goal and ensures I don’t lose track.
  • Excitement. Every time I look at my vision board, I get excited about what the future may hold!
  • Reminder. Let’s be honest; we tend to forget our goals for the new year. My vision board has a permanent spot on my phone and desktop background, so forgetting is not an option.
  • Fun. The enjoyment I have creating my vision board is immeasurable. And to add to that, it is aesthetically pleasing!

Steps to Creating a Vision Board

Now you know why, let’s move on to how to make one.

1. Identify your goals.

Firstly, you need to set clear goals. You cannot make one if you don’t know what to put on it.

I highly recommend checking out my latest post, How To Do a Life Audit in 2023. This guide will lay the groundwork for a kickass 2024.

Once you’ve set your goals, we can move on to the next step.

2. Where should I make my vision board?

There are many different platforms and ways to create it. You should find the one that works for you

There are two main categories:

  • Physical vision boards – These are tangible, aka a DIY version. You can print images and get creative with them, like stick them on your wall, grid, or journal.
  • Digital vision boards – I always opt for this option. You can design it on Canva (this is what I do), make a Pinterest board (I do this also), make a collage on Notion, etc. What I like most about the digital version is that it doesn’t cost a dime.

3. Choose a theme.

I really love a cohesive and aesthetic vision board.

Here is some inspiration on different themes you may want to consider:

  • Color scheme – choose a color and stick to it for a cohesive look.
  • Aesthetic – I’ve lost track of all the different aesthetics. Some examples include light and dark academia, minimalistic, cottagecore, vintage, grunge, etc.

These are two basic ways to make it aesthetically pleasing.

I included my past three years’ vision boards that will inspire you <3.

4. What can I include?

A vision board does not necessarily have to be limited to images. Take creative freedom and add some extra spice:

    • Quotes. Some inspirational and motivational quotes can make the world’s difference on your vision board. I designed *FREE* printable quotes specifically for your vision board! Go check it out here.
    • Words. Add core words associated with your goals. Another option is to choose a word of the year – see my life audit for more information.
    • Digital Illustrations. This art style could add something different to your vision board. You can find plenty of beautiful and free art on Canva under elements.
    • Stickers. You can use stickers and craft items on a physical vision board to give a 3D aspect to it.

Now that you have an idea of what to put on your vision board, we can move on to the actual process of making a vision board.

5. Find images.

Pinterest is your best friend for finding pictures. (While we are on topic, follow me on Pinterest if you want!)

All you need to do is search for the topic/goal you are looking for. It is always helpful to elaborate on your search, for example, “skincare dark aesthetic”.

Download all the images you need to your computer or phone.

6. Edit the images (optional).

This step is entirely optional.

It is just an extra step toward cohesiveness. You can put a filter on via an editing app on your phone, like VSCO or Lightroom.

You can either do this picture by picture or when you assemble the vision board as a unit.

7. Assemble your vision board.

Put all the images together in your style of choice. Print the images or upload them to the digital platform you prefer.

So get out your scissors, glue, or PC, and get crafting. I always prefer making a collage with all my images, words, and quotes.

8. What now?

Okay, now you have a vision board, so what’s next?

Well, there are a few things you can do.

  • Put it somewhere you can see daily, whether in your room, on your mirror, or your phone background.
  • Go public. Share your it with the world! It’s a great way to keep yourself accountable. Read How to Keep Yourself Accountable: 4 Strategies to Achieve Your Goals
