Can you believe we’re halfway through the year? This means it is time for our mid-year reset routine and life audit.
There are three crucial planning seasons:
- At the beginning of the year, when your goals are born
- In the middle of the year, when you analyze your progress
- And at the end of the year, when you reset your plans for the next
The half-year mark is the best time to hit pause and reflect. Whether you are crushing life or need a little boost, a half-year life audit can help you stay on track.
Today we’ll deep dive into the past 6 months, the present, and the next 6 months to ensure we are on the right path.

What is a mid-year reset routine?
A mid-year reset routine is the act of reflecting on, evaluating, and planning the goals you have set for yourself this year.
It is also known as a mid-year life audit.
Constant check-ins with your goals are important, as you may know. You can only accomplish ideals by tracking them.
This activity should occur monthly on a smaller scale; however, it is vital in the middle of the year.
How to prepare for my mid-year reset?
1. Find a cozy nook
Create a comfortable environment with no distractions. You need to be able to think clearly.
Put away your phone, close the door, and set aside a couple of hours to be fully immersed in your life audit.
2. Gather your tools
You don’t need a lot for a life audit. But I do recommend you pull these things closer:
- Journal to jot down all your plans.
- Necessary stationery – Tip: Use different colors for achievements, challenges, and new goals.
- Your vision board of the year and goal list
- Planner or calendar to track your deadlines and set new milestones.
- Mood boosters such as a candle, coffee, or a calming playlist.
- Your Notion or Trello board if you are a digital girly.
- Reflection questions, prompts, or a workbook.
The Ultimate Mid-Year Reset Routine in 3 Steps
It may seem daunting, but the mid-year reset routine only has three major components.
Namely:
- Past
- Present
- Future
Review the past 6 Months
In order to know where you are and where you are going, you need to know what you’ve done.
1. Review your goals
What did you achieve?
The easiest way to reflect on your goals is to open your vision board and goal list for 2024.
Transfer all the goals into your journal and color code them:
- Green for the goals you’ve finished
- Blue for the ones in progress, and
- Pink for the ones you haven’t started yet
This method will bring your progress into perspective.
2. Celebrate your wins
Acknowledge your accomplishments.
I love to write down my milestones for every month. Why? Because I tend to forget how far I’ve come.
See your progress and celebrate.
3. Identify your obstacles
Note any obstacles or setbacks.
Take all the “pink” goals and explain why you’ve made no progress.
The list of potential reasons is long. Here are a few prompts to help narrow it down.
- Have you set time stamps for your goals?
- Are your goal-setting techniques lacking? Use the SMART method to set your goals.
- Did you lose interest in the specific goal?
- Did life throw a curveball that delayed your plans?
Now that you know how far you’ve come, you need to assess the key areas of your life.
The best way to do this is through the Wheel Of Life.
I have a complete guide to the Wheel of Life with FREE printables here.
However, I can summarize it in short because jumping between posts is a nuisance.
The Wheel of Life consists of 8 categories. During the assessment, you will rate each category on a scale of 1-10.
You then use these ratings to evaluate the level of satisfaction and overall balance of your life. You can use the scores to identify the imbalances and strengths. Thus creating a game plan for improvement.
These categories include:
- Career
- Physical Health
- Mental Health
- Financial Situation
- Spirituality
- Recreational Wellbeing
- Social/Relationship
- Environment

Plan your future
This is the fun bit! Now that you know what you’ve done and where you are, you can determine where you are going.
Map out your plan for the next 6 months
- Migrate your goals
- Move the goals you didn’t accomplish to a later time stamp.
- Make a list of importance
- Order your remaining goals on a list from most important to least important.
- Break your goals into smaller chunks
- One major goal can be intimidating. It is much more achievable if you break it down into smaller steps.
- Set milestones
- Create a timeline for goal milestones.
- Schedule your next review
- The mid-year reset routine is crucial; however, that does not mean you should not review regularly. Make sure to check in on your goals as the year progresses.
Extra Tips For A Successful Mid-Year Reset Routine
A mid-year reset doesn’t stop after completing the assessment. Here are a few extra tips to guide you toward a successful 2024:
- Accountability partner – Ask a close friend or family to keep you accountable for the goals you set by checking in regularly. Here is a full guide to accountability if you’re interested.
- Track your progress – Check in on your goals. You can use apps, planners, or journals to keep tabs on progress.
- Incorporate self-care – I am hyper-goal-oriented to the point where I neglect myself. Be sure to incorporate self-love into your year. It will help you stay clear-minded.
- Plan for flexibility – Life is unpredictable. Allow some level of flexibility into your game plan to account for any curveball life might through at you.
